Tracadie Historical Museum
The uniqueness of the Tracadie Historical Museum comes from the fact that it is the only musueum in Canada to present an overview of what a leper colony could have been like in the 19th century.
The history of the Tracadie Historical Museum dates back to 1968, when Sister Dorina Frigault, opened a “mini-museum” to mark the centennial celebration of the arrival of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph. She exhibited various ancient objects related to the work of the sisters in Tracadie.
Over the next ten years, the museum was structured, incorporated, and expanded its collection. This museum, largely dedicated to the history of care for people afflicted by leporsy, contains many other antique objects. Located on the second floor of the Sainte-Famille Academy, the Tracadie Historical Museum invites you to visit its exhibits and the heritage trail.
